Business year 2012 was a success for Audi Hungaria

• New record in engine production and high value in investment
• More than 1,600 new employees
• Jubilee 2013: opening the new vehicle factory

AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. can look back on 2012 as a successful year: the world’s largest engine manufacturing plant hit a new record by producing 1,915,567 engines (2011: 1,883,757). In the vehicle factory 33,553 cars rolled off the assembly line (2011: 39,518). Audi Hungaria’s sales in 2012 amounted to 5,282 million euro (2011: 5,598 million euro). Last year the company completed a high-value investment worth 1,038 million euro in Győr. At the end of the year the headcount at Audi Hungaria amounted to 8,663 employees, corresponding to a growth of 18.3 percent. In 2013 the company will celebrate its 20^th anniversary and the opening of a new car factory covering the entire production process.

“Last year Audi Hungaria showed extremely dynamic development. We increased our investment activities considerably, new employees were taken on and we continued building our car factory,” − stressed Thomas Faustmann, Chief Executive Officer of Audi Hungaria. “Our activities are contributing to Audi’s goal to become the world leader of premium brands.”

2012 witnessed the launch of mass production of 11 new engine variants at Audi Hungaria. These launches included the mass production of the innovative 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder Otto engines, among others. In addition, the two millionth six-cylinder diesel engine and the five hundred thousandth eight-cylinder engine were completed. The company has now manufactured 1,915,567 engines in total. In order to accommodate the new engine projects, Audi Hungaria has expanded the production area used for engine manufacture and the new Experimental Engine Manufacturing Centre building was commissioned in July in order to host all R+D and production activities related to experimental engines in the same facility.

Last year the topping out ceremony for the new car factory was a highlight of recent years. Construction proceeded on schedule; equipment and production lines were installed. In order to secure sufficient manpower for the car factory, the company trained 1,500 employees in the local training centre as well as in other company facilities in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, Germany.

New elements were integrated into the tool plant last year in order to increase capacity in the production of small-scale chassis components for models such as Q5, RS5 Cabrio, RS4, A6 and Q3, among others.

Audi Hungaria has also expanded its scope of activities in technical development. Alongside the engine development centre that has been in operation for over a decade, the new field of engine development has been introduced. Construction of a new area is making good progress, laying special emphasis on vehicle testing to boost the mass production of new models.

AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. generated revenue of 5,282 million euro during the last fiscal year (2011: 5 598 million euro).

Capital expenditures rose above the previous year’s figure. All in all, Audi invested 1,038 million euro in Győr (2011: 685 million euro), the majority of which was spent on building the new car factory covering the whole production process, on preparing for mass production, and on expanding the range of products and engine production capacity. The total CAPEX invested in the company since its foundation has thus reached 5,770 million euro.

AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. took on more than 1,600 new employeesin 2012. 8,663 people were in employment in the company at the end of the year (2011: 7 322). The company set the goal of increasing the proportion of the female workforce from 2 to 10 percent; to this end, a unique training scheme is dedicated to providing further training opportunities for women employees.

The company has cooperation training schemes in place to look to the future and secure the next generation. Dual vocational training, underway in the Project and Training Centre since the beginning of this year, is the cornerstone of the replacement scheme. At present, some 250 trainees are acquiring one or other of the 13 trades available at Audi Hungaria.

With the aid of Audi Hungaria and the city of Győr, the Department of Audi Hungaria Internal Combustion Engines at Széchenyi István University has acquired a new office and laboratory building. In the course of their studies, students regularly work on joint research and development projects with AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. The company is happy to support initiatives that contribute to the development of the city of Győr and arouse the interest of the young generation in technical professions. With this in mind, Audi Hungaria has become a partner of the MOBILIS Interactive Exhibition Centre opened in 2012. In addition, the company is also supporting the expansion of Győr-Pér regional airport.

“Audi Hungaria will celebrate its 20^th anniversary in 2013. This year too, we should like to continue writing the success story of the past two decades “, said Faustmann. The company has made a good start in the jubilee year. Besides the series of events celebrating the 20^th anniversary, the company will reach a very important milestone in the middle of the year: mass production of the new Audi A3 limousine will commence.

In the first few months of the year Audi Hungaria has created more than 300 new jobs and hired its 9,000^th employee. Audi Hungaria has won the “Most Attractive Employer” prize for the fifth time in Hungary in 2013.
